LITERACY – GEOGRAPHY-SCIENCE- LANGUAGE
Students of St1 &St2 Classes (6th grade) search and collect information about the history, cultivation and the products derived from Chios Mastic. In small groups, they write the text of a radio show named “Mastic Flavored Radio waves” as part of their participation to Educational Programme “Radio Pages – The National Library in the Radio Waves of European School Radio”. Then with the help of the journalist Anastasia Ioannidou, they participate in 3 workshops in which

Teachers contacted Mr. Gialoussis, a member of Chios Mastic Growers Association, in order to discuss with our pupils about his life as a Mastic producer and the benefits that Mastic Trees bring to Chios Island’s economy and cultural life

Students of St1 &St2 Classes
Take a telephone interview of Mr. Gialoussis A. at school and they recorded it with the Audacity software. Then they visited the professional recording studios of National Library of Greece where they recorded the spoken parts of their radio show. At the same time, they got acquainted with the norms and rules of professional recording studios. They edit the two recordings with Audacity audio editing software and they add music to create a complete, informative as well as entertaining, radio show.

The pupils with special needs participate in small mixed ability groups in every activity, they benefit from peer coaching and they contribute to the common goal according to their abilities, e.g they undertake the role of a speaker or they bring material for the team to write their part of the radio show text
VISITS
D1 Class Students (4th Grade) participate in the Student Radio Festival 2018 (15-17/3/2018 at Trikala) where the winners of the song and radio spot contest were announced. Out students, radio spot won the 1st prize for their innovative radio spot. The award ceremony was broadcasted live through festival’s website and it’s now archived.
